Mission Statement

Project Linus is a non-profit organization with a two-fold mission.

  • First, it is our mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”
  • Second, it is our mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.

Project Linus Goals

  • To maintain and exceed the current level of quality service and compassion, despite unprecedented growth, for the children and families receiving handmade comfort across the country.
  • To sustain and support the over 300 chapter coordinators, and newly formed chapters through ongoing training, communication and appreciation efforts. To remain responsive and grateful to an estimated 35,000 volunteers nationwide.
  • To secure funding to support the general operating expenses and program services of the organization, thus providing opportunity for the fulfillment of our mission.
  • To concentrate full effort and energy on the mission of Project Linus.

Donation Guidelines

As a non-profit organization, Project Linus depends on the generosity of others for financial support. Expenses necessary to maintain our National Office and to support chapters include: telephone and internet charges, office supplies, printing expenses, and postage among others. Those interested in making a financial donation to Project Linus should be advised:

  • Your donations should be made to our National Headquarters at:
    • Project Linus National Headquarters
    • PO Box 1548
    • Belton, MO 64012-1108
  • Should your donation be made for the benefit of a specific chapter, please indicate to Project Linus National Headquarters. In most cases, 80% of the donation will be held on reserve for the chapter, and 20% will be retained for use by National Headquarters to be used at the discretion of the board of directors.
  • In some cases involving very large chapter donations, a formula may be used to determine chapter need based on activity enabling funds to be used where they are most needed.
  • The board of directors retains the prerogative to use all funds as the board deems appropriate.
  • No conditional gifts will be accepted. The board of directors retains the prerogative to decline or accept any gift.
  • Except for gifts clearly marked “anonymous,” no gift may be accepted whose origin or intent is unknown or ambiguous.
  • Generally, donations will be tax deductible. However, donors are encouraged to consult with their tax professionals to determine tax deductibility.
